Shibden Hall is a historic house located in West Yorkshire, England. Situated in the picturesque Shibden Valley, this magnificent Tudor-style mansion has a rich heritage dating back over 600 years. The Hall is set within beautifully landscaped grounds that encompass a park, gardens, and woodlands.

Originally constructed in the 15th century, Shibden Hall was extensively renovated in the 17th and 19th centuries. The house features a distinctive timber-framed façade, with mullioned windows and a stone-flagged roof. Inside, visitors can explore the various rooms, including the dining room, drawing room, library, and bedrooms, which have been meticulously restored to their former glory. The hall also houses a collection of period furniture, ceramics, and textiles, providing a glimpse into the lives of the people who once lived there.

The surrounding gardens at Shibden Hall are equally impressive, boasting a range of formal and informal spaces. Highlights include a walled garden, a wildflower meadow, and a picturesque pond. The parkland surrounding the hall offers visitors the opportunity to enjoy leisurely walks and take in the stunning views of the Yorkshire countryside.

Shibden Hall has become particularly renowned due to its association with Anne Lister, a 19th-century diarist and landowner. Lister lived at the hall for much of her life and played a significant role in its history. Today, the hall provides insights into Lister's life and the LGBTQ+ history of the area.

As a designated heritage site, Shibden Hall is open to the public and offers guided tours, educational programs, and special events throughout the year. It stands as a testament to Yorkshire's architectural and cultural history, providing visitors with a unique opportunity to step back in time and experience the grandeur of a bygone era.

Climbing New Bank, Halifax – 1978 -1 On the Trans Pennine Run for commercial vehicles, which is the northern complement to the London to Brighton run for similar vehicles. This is a Sentinel S8 steam lorry, the sole survivor of just 9 of the type built, dating from 1933. The S series was the final flowering of steam road vehicles, with performance at least the match of diesel lorries of the time, although the latter were improving rapidly and were cheaper and easier to run.

The road layout has changed significantly since 1978 with only westbound traffic using the viaduct <a title="https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1524040" href="https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1524040">Link</a>

The word 'unique' is often misused, but does apply to this bus, as it was the only double-deck bus built by the Preston firm Atkinson, much better known for their lorry production. It was built in 1954 for the Stalybridge, Hyde, Mossley and Dukinfield Transport and Electricity Board, generally known as the SHMD Joint Board, with bodywork by Northern Counties of Wigan. It was unusual in having a central entrance which was a peculiarity of the operator. The bus behind is also of interest. It is one of a small number of buses built by AEC to London Transport's RT specification for operators other than London Transport itself, in this case St Helens Corporation.
