Wothorpe House is a historic mansion located in the county of Northamptonshire, England. Situated near the village of Wothorpe, this magnificent Grade I listed building dates back to the 17th century and is recognized as an important heritage site.

The house was originally constructed in the late 1600s by architect William Talman for the Montagu family, who were influential figures in British society. The architecture of Wothorpe House exhibits a classic English Baroque style, characterized by its grand proportions and elegant design features.

The mansion boasts a symmetrical façade, with a central pediment and a portico supported by imposing columns. The interiors are equally impressive, featuring ornate plasterwork, intricately carved woodwork, and extravagant period furnishings. Notably, the house contains a magnificent double-height hall and a stunning chapel.

Over the years, Wothorpe House has been home to several distinguished residents, including the Marquess of Exeter and the Duke of Buccleuch. However, it fell into disrepair during the 20th century and was eventually abandoned.

In recent years, efforts have been made to restore Wothorpe House to its former glory. The building underwent extensive renovation work to stabilize its structure and preserve its historical features. Today, the house stands as a testament to the grandeur of its past and serves as an event venue, offering a unique setting for weddings, corporate functions, and cultural events.

Wothorpe House is not open to the public on a regular basis, but occasional guided tours are organized, allowing visitors to appreciate the architectural splendor and rich history of this remarkable heritage site.

Stamford Meadows footbridge in the snow Rather tucked up in one corner of this grid square, but I thought a snowy image might be a nice one to kick things off!
Bound to be more picture opportunities further west following the river towards the A1 but I didn't have my wellies!
