Almanythie Creek is a picturesque body of water located in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. It is a small creek that stretches for approximately 3 kilometers, flowing from the inland hills down towards the North Sea. The creek is formed by the convergence of several smaller streams and rivers, creating a beautiful estuary where freshwater meets the saltwater of the sea.

The surrounding landscape of Almanythie Creek is characterized by rolling hills, lush green fields, and scattered woodlands. It serves as a vital habitat for a variety of flora and fauna, including numerous bird species, fish, and mammals. The creek and its estuary provide an important feeding ground for migratory birds, making it a popular spot for birdwatching enthusiasts.

The water in Almanythie Creek is crystal clear and teeming with marine life. It is home to a diverse range of fish species, such as salmon, trout, and eels, attracting anglers from near and far. The estuary also serves as a nursery for young fish, providing them with shelter and abundant food sources.

The tidal influence in Almanythie Creek is significant, as the water levels rise and fall with the changing tides of the North Sea. During low tide, vast mudflats are exposed, creating a rich feeding ground for wading birds and other shore-dwelling creatures.

The beauty and tranquility of Almanythie Creek make it a popular destination for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. Visitors can enjoy peaceful walks along the creek's banks, observe the local wildlife, or indulge in fishing activities. The creek's natural charm and its unique blend of freshwater and saltwater ecosystems make it a truly remarkable location in Aberdeenshire.

Buchanhaven Harbour In 1850 work started on a new pier, to replace an earlier small one to the west. This was to be the first stage in the building of a proper harbour basin for large herring boats. This plan was never completed. Buchanhaven Pier, as it stands today, did allow the fishermen to operate small-line boats. By the mid 1860s there were 27 boats working from the harbour.

The proximity of Peterhead and other larger fishing harbours eventually led to the demise of the harbour and nowadays only a few small boats use it.
