On a footpath across fields near Morpeth My wife recces the path ahead. I send her out as a skirmisher and scout and she never fails to fulfil her mission, saving us many scrapes, correcting my errant navigation and establishing friendly terms with natives before I have a chance to sour relations. She enjoys the role as she knows the value of diplomacy, hates errors, rule-breaking and unnecessary delays and knows I need time to compose my "blinking geograph shots".

Under the railway viaduct near Morpeth Quite a sight, when approached for the first time in the wooded valley. It sort of materialises far overhead from amongst the trees, almost not quite there, then solidly present.
