90733 entering Oxenhope Station War Department 2-8-0 locomotive No. 90733 brings a passenger train into Oxenhope Station on the KWVR. No. 90733 was built in 1945 and went straight over to the continent to aid the war effort, afterwards being sold to Netherlands Railways. Later sold to Sweden, it ended up in the Swedish &#039;strategic reserve&#039; of steam locomotives. It was bought by the KWVR in 1972 and has been restored to its original state and numbered 90733. BR owned 733 engines of this type numbered from 90000 to 90732, but this one was never in BR stock and so has been given the next unused number in the series. Diesel-electric D0226 at Oxenhope, 1968

A speculative production by English Electric, along with a similar locomotive with hydraulic transmission, both 500 HP, on loan to BR for trials in the late 1950s. They were based at Stratford, and were returned after a few years. Originally D226 and D227, zeros were added when main line locomotives in the D200 series were introduced. D0227 was later scrapped, D0226 after some time in store was passed to the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway.

Oxenhope Station

The southern terminus of the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway. The final steam-hauled service of the day has recently arrived from Keighley. Just uncoupled and about to return to the engine sheds is locomotive No. 45212, an LMS 'Black 5' dating from 1935. Although it is owned by, and based at, the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway, this engine has another part-time job, often operating on the West Highland Line in Scotland, pulling the 'Jacobite' train, beloved of Harry Potter fans. It was due to return there after undergoing regular maintenance in Yorkshire.

A diesel engine at Oxenhope Station

The KWVR is a branch line off the former Midland Main Line at Keighley in West Yorkshire, terminating at Oxenhope near the head of the Worth Valley. The line opened in 1867, but along with many other branch lines closed in 1962. It was re-started by a preservation society in 1968, one of the first such ventures, and has been a tourist attraction ever since, helped by serving the "Bronte town" of Haworth. Locomotive 7714 at Oxenhope

Pannier tank locomotive 7714 was built in Stoke in 1930 for the Great Western Railway. Withdrawn by British Rail in 1959, she then worked in South Wales for the National Coal Board. Now a restored heritage locomotive, she was a guest engine at the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway’s March 2022 steam gala.

Locomotive 45596 "Bahamas" at Oxenhope

Locomotive 45596, “Bahamas”, belongs to the Jubilee Class. Built in Glasgow in 1934 for the London Midland Scottish Railway, she was withdrawn by British Rail in 1966. She delighted enthusiasts and their families at the Keighley & Worth Valley steam gala in March 2022.

D6515 "Lt Jenny Lewis RN" at Oxenhope

Diesel locomotive D6515 worked with BR between 1960 and 1997. On being retired from service, she was preserved as a heritage locomotive. Viewed at Oxenhope during the Keighley & Worth Valley’s June 2022 Diesel Gala. Lt Jenny Lewis RN, a diesel enthusiast, served on helicopters flying from HMS Richmond until her untimely death in a crash off the east coast of America.

A Hoover at Oxenhope

Locomotive 50026 “Indomitable” was a big attraction at the Keighley & Worth Valley’s June 2022 Diesel Gala. An army of camera-wielding enthusiasts filled the platform when she arrived at Oxenhope. The unusual sound of the engine’s air filters led to the nickname “Hoover”.

Locomotive 50026 “Indomitable” was a big attraction at the Keighley & Worth Valley’s June 2022 Diesel Gala. 50 locomotives of this class were built by English Electric in the 1960s. “Indomitable” is the sole survivor. The name was added in the late 1970s in recognition of the distinguished service of the aircraft carrier HMS Indomitable during World War II.
