Pen-y-gaer cairn The moon is almost full in this early-evening view of the summit of this fine and atmospheric hill. I feel a shiver of connection with the Celtic originators of such defensive sites at times like the full moon or solstice. The cairn is an abomination, really, but people have their own way of celebrating the location.

Hilton Garden Inn at 'Surf Snowdonia' A relatively new hotel, with 106 bedrooms, was constructed and opened in 2021. Unfortunately shortly after opening the surfing facility encountered further mechanical issues and ceased to operate in 2022 . The mechanics had been problematic since it opened in 2015. Covid issues had also effectively closed the facility. Adventure Parc Snowdonia, formerly 'Surf Snowdonia', with its other pursuits, still has the inland surf lagoon, the outlook for which is uncertain until the surfing machine is repaired. A call for further investment has been made without which the site (Adventure Parc Snowdonia) maybe sold.
More recently (November 2022 until February 2023) it caused much local consternation as the hotel was used as an asylum seekers refuge centre.
