Carreg Cennen Castle is a historic landmark situated in the county of Carmarthenshire, Wales. Perched dramatically on a limestone cliff, the castle offers panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, making it a popular tourist attraction and a cherished heritage site.

The castle's origins can be traced back to the 13th century when it was built by the Welsh nobleman, Rhys ap Gruffydd. Over the centuries, it underwent several phases of construction and was later inhabited by various noble families, including the de Cantilupe and Vaughan families.

The castle's strategic location atop the hill made it an important defensive stronghold during the Welsh Wars of Independence. Its formidable defenses include a drawbridge, a gatehouse, and a deep well that provided a reliable water source during times of siege.

Within the castle's walls, visitors can explore the remains of the Great Hall, the kitchen, and the chapel. The castle's interior boasts a fascinating array of architectural features, from the grand fireplace to the narrow spiral staircase leading to the battlements.

In addition to its historical significance, Carreg Cennen Castle is surrounded by breathtaking natural beauty. The castle is nestled within a nature reserve, which attracts wildlife enthusiasts and offers a picturesque setting for leisurely walks.

Today, Carreg Cennen Castle is managed by Cadw, the Welsh Government's historic environment service, which ensures its preservation and accessibility to the public. The castle welcomes visitors year-round, providing guided tours, educational exhibits, and a delightful tearoom where visitors can enjoy refreshments while admiring the castle's stunning views.

The castle was "accidentally" sold to the farmer when the castle was inadvertently left on the deeds when local farm land was being sold in the 1960s!
