Aldborough, the larger of the two villages, is situated on the A140 road and has a population of around 1,200 residents. It has a rich history, dating back to Roman times when it was an important market town known as Venta Icenorum. The remains of a Roman town wall and other archaeological sites can still be seen today. The village also features a number of historic buildings, including a 14th-century church and a 17th-century market cross.
Thurgarton, the smaller village, is located to the east of Aldborough and has a population of approximately 400 residents. It is known for its picturesque rural setting and charming thatched cottages. The village has a 12th-century church, which is a Grade I listed building, and a village hall that serves as a community hub.
