Embsay & Bolton Abbey Steam Railway - Bow Bridge loop
This is the limit of the preserved railway looking towards the former Embsay Junction. There is no station here so we all had to wait on board while the locomotive ran round on the loop.
Embsay Diesel Gala (6)
The Embsay and Bolton Abbey Railway was holding a diesel gala over the August bank holiday, with a beer festival. Here, a shuttle train from Embsay station pauses at the far end of the line before reversing. Only seventy metres separates this point from the existing freight line into Skipton at Embsay Junction, but the contractual terms required for private railways to run trains on Network Rail lines mean it is often too expensive to have such a physical connection, meaning that any movement of locomotives or carriages to and from the railway has to be by road.

Skipton Road railway bridge
The line from Skipton to Threshfield was only ever single track and regular passenger workings stopped as long ago as 1930 but it is still used for occasional stone trains from Swinden quarry. Seen from a heritage train on what was once the main line, but now the preserved Embsay and Bolton Abbey Railway. To the left is some kind of utility installation (probably gas).

Jenny Beck trickles through the Alders
The Alders is a new housing development to the east of Skipton, taking away farmland and natural drainage areas from above the town.
Jenny Beck flowing down off Skipton Moor looked quite placid today, but I have on good authority it can often be a raging torrent, which can break its banks and flow down Short Bank Road.
But I suppose it is better to build new housing on a hillside rather than on the floodplain where the River Aire frequently causes issues.
A6131 from Skipton Bypass
This is the old Skipton to Harrogate and the North East road and is now very quiet following the opening of the Skipton bypass several years ago
Skipton Road, Embsay
The railway bridge carries the line from Skipton (Right) to Swinden Limestone quarry (Left) and is used by several trains each day. Just short of Swinden Quarry at Cracoe there is a manual level crossing.
Bridleway to Skipton Moor
Looking ENE through the woods above Jenny Gill. The bridleway starts at the top of Shortbank Road.
Ancient Track leading down to Skipton
This track runs across Skipton Moor from Addingham. At this point it is steeply descending through the woods by Jenny Gill, before becoming metalled and adopting the title of Shortbank Road and running towards the town centre
