The Sisters is a group of small islands located off the north coast of Scotland, in the county of Caithness. Comprising of three main islands and several smaller islets, The Sisters form a picturesque archipelago in the North Atlantic Ocean.
The largest island, called Muckle Skerry, is characterized by its rugged and rocky terrain, with towering cliffs that offer breathtaking views of the surrounding sea. It is home to a diverse range of bird species, including puffins, guillemots, and kittiwakes, making it a popular destination for birdwatching enthusiasts.
The other two islands, known as Little Skerry and Out Skerries, are smaller in size but equally stunning. Little Skerry boasts sandy beaches and grassy dunes, providing a contrasting landscape to Muckle Skerry. Out Skerries, on the other hand, is known for its rich marine life, with seals, otters, and even occasional sightings of whales and dolphins.
These islands have a rich history, with evidence of human presence dating back thousands of years. It is believed that the islands were inhabited by Norse settlers during the Viking Age, and remnants of their settlements can still be found today.
Access to The Sisters is limited due to their remote location, and there are no permanent residents on the islands. However, visitors can arrange boat trips or helicopter tours to explore the stunning natural beauty and experience the tranquility that these remote islands offer.
