Black Mixen is a small uninhabited island located in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, off the coast of Wales, in the United Kingdom. Situated approximately 1.5 kilometers southwest of the mainland, it is part of a cluster of islands known as the Skomer Island Group.

Covering an area of around 3.5 hectares, Black Mixen is characterized by its rugged and rocky terrain, with steep cliffs rising up to 30 meters above sea level. The island is predominantly composed of volcanic rocks, such as pillow lava and basalt, which were formed around 450 million years ago during the Silurian period.

Due to its relative isolation and lack of human disturbance, Black Mixen serves as an important wildlife habitat. It is particularly noteworthy for its breeding seabird populations, including razorbills, guillemots, and kittiwakes. The island's cliffs provide essential nesting sites for these species, which can be seen perched on the ledges or diving into the surrounding waters to catch fish.

Access to Black Mixen is restricted to protect the sensitive ecosystem and wildlife. Visitors require special permission from the Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales or the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) to land on the island. Boat trips and guided tours are occasionally organized to provide visitors with an opportunity to observe the unique wildlife and geological features of this remote island.

Overall, Black Mixen offers a glimpse into the diverse and thriving natural environment found within the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, making it a fascinating destination for nature enthusiasts and conservationists alike.
