Ynys y Ddinas, also known as Dinas Island, is a small but stunning island situated off the coast of Pembrokeshire, Wales. It lies just north of Newport and overlooks the popular Newport Bay. The island is connected to the mainland by a narrow and sandy tombolo, which is submerged during high tide, giving it the appearance of a true island.

Covering an area of approximately 100 hectares, Ynys y Ddinas is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) due to its rich wildlife and geological features. The island is characterized by its dramatic cliffs that rise up to 400 feet in certain areas, providing breathtaking views of the surrounding coastline and beyond. These cliffs are composed of sedimentary rocks such as sandstone and shale, showcasing layers of different colors and textures.

The island is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, making it a haven for nature enthusiasts. It supports a wide variety of bird species, including seabirds such as razorbills, guillemots, and fulmars. Puffins also nest here during the breeding season, adding to the island's charm. In addition, Ynys y Ddinas is known for its vibrant wildflowers, with colorful displays of thrift, sea campion, and rock samphire decorating the cliff edges.

Visitors to Ynys y Ddinas can enjoy several walking trails that offer panoramic views of the surrounding coastline, as well as opportunities for wildlife spotting and photography. The island is accessible year-round, but caution is advised during high tides, as the tombolo may become submerged and cut off from the mainland.
