Built between 1877 and 1879 to the designs of the architect J.C. Hay of 4 Charlotte Place, Edinburgh, by the contractors William and James Henderson of Salen, Mull.
It was opened on 12 January 1879 by Revd. D. McLauchlan of Edinburgh.
