Barmore Moss is a large expanse of moorland located in Wigtownshire, Scotland. It is situated in the southern part of the county, near the village of Barmore. The moss covers an area of approximately 200 hectares and is characterized by its undulating terrain and diverse vegetation.

The moss is predominantly composed of peat, which has accumulated over thousands of years due to the slow decomposition of plant material. This peat acts as a carbon sink and plays an important role in mitigating climate change.

The vegetation on Barmore Moss is varied and includes heather, grasses, and sphagnum moss. These plants have adapted to the acidic and waterlogged conditions of the moss. The area is also home to a variety of wildlife, including birds such as curlews and lapwings, as well as small mammals like voles and shrews.

Barmore Moss is of great importance for conservation and is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) due to its ecological value. The moss provides a habitat for rare plant species, as well as being an important breeding ground for several bird species.

Visitors to Barmore Moss can enjoy the tranquil surroundings and observe the unique flora and fauna that thrive in this unique habitat. The moss is accessible via footpaths and there are information boards that provide educational material about the moss and its significance.
