Ashen Copse is a beautiful woodland area located in Surrey, England. Covering an area of approximately 100 acres, it is nestled within the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The copse is well-known for its dense and ancient woodland, consisting mainly of oak and beech trees, which have been standing for centuries.

The woodland is home to a rich diversity of flora and fauna, making it a haven for nature enthusiasts and wildlife lovers. Bluebells, wood anemones, and wild garlic carpet the forest floor during spring, creating a mesmerizing display of colors. The towering trees provide a habitat for various bird species, including woodpeckers, owls, and thrushes, which can be heard singing melodiously throughout the year.

The paths are well-maintained, making it accessible for all ages and abilities. Along the way, there are several clearings and picnic spots, where visitors can take a break and enjoy the tranquil surroundings.

In addition to its natural beauty, Ashen Copse also holds historical significance. It is believed to have been used as a hunting ground for the nobility during medieval times. Remnants of ancient boundary markers and earthworks can still be found within the copse, adding to its charm and intrigue.

Overall, Ashen Copse is a captivating woodland retreat that offers a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Its natural and historical significance, combined with its scenic beauty, make it a must-visit destination for nature lovers and history enthusiasts alike.

Cranleigh obelisk This was built when the road was built, and is Victorian although the age is unknown. The signs are almost the same as the pre-Worboys which replaced them, but officially is a milepost SC CRANOB, although the signs should qualify as pre-Worboys individually. There are three and I have taken each separately here. Anyone with sharp eyes will also notice the road does not go to Guildford this way but comes from it, they are not in the correct order.
