Isle of Wight Steam Railway - running around at Smallbrook Junction No. 41298 is just running round for the return to Havenstreet. We were transferring to the electric train for the trip to Ryde Pier Head Station.  No. 41298 is an Ivatt designed Class 2 2-6-2T built at Crewe in 1951 and was one of a class of 130 (120 being built by British Railways). It was withdrawn in 1967 and after a peripatetic existence came to the Isle of Wight in 2008 and was returned to steam in 2015. This is a large engine by Isle of Wight standards.

Shanklin to Ryde railway The A3055 crosses over the Shanklin to Ryde railway on a skew bridge at Ricket's Hill.  This is the only remaining line on the island, apart from the preserved Isle of Wight steam railway.  It is now mostly single track as can be seen here heading north-west across the square.

Field near Hill Farm A bridleway runs south, to the south eastern corner of this field.  The square is mainly arable fields.  The Land Rover had been left here whilst the farmer was away inspecting something at the far side of the field.
