The strange circular structure in the field at Hawkhill Farm is a shaft from an old coal mine, walled off for protection. The main part of the mine was on the other side of the road on Bargany Estate. See NX2399 : Old colliery site near Lovestone

Occasional patches of snowdrops enjoy the sunshine alongside the Water of Girvan at Killochan Estate. The flowers have to fight their way through the previous year’s brambles and nettles.

My previous visit to this site in March 2021 was too late to see the flowers in bloom. The snowdrops were lovely this time though the February sun was only just reaching the slope.

These snowdrops were spreading out in the woodland near the old colliery site. My previous visit to this spot NX2399 : Old colliery site near Lovestone was too late to see the flowers in bloom. It was worth the return visit.

Built on the site of a 13th century chapel, this is known as the "Covenanter's Church" as it contains the graves of five 17th century Covenanters. Link

The tall trees line the southern driveway into the estate.

The inscribed panel reads:- IN HONOUR OF JOHN STEVENSON, OF CAMREGAN A MAN OF FAITH AND PRAYER, WHO SUFFERED MUCH FOR HIS CONSCIENTIOUS ADHERENCE TO SCOTLANDS COVENANTED WORK OF REFORMATION, BORN 1656 DIED, DIED 1729 ERECTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THIS DISTRICT AUGUST 1886 A panel on the reverse reads:- ALSO IN MEMORY OF JOHN MARTIN, SCHOOLMASTER, OLD DAILLY. WHO AFTER AN IMPRISONMENT OF FOUR YEARS AND FOUR MONTHS, SUFFERED IN THE GRASSMARKET EDINBURGH ON 22ND FEB 1684 FOR HIS ADHERENCE TO THE COVENANT, ALSO OF OTHER TWO COVENANTERS, (NAMES UNKNOWN) ONE OF WHOM, ACCORDING TO TRADITION, WAS SHOT DEAD, WHILE HERDING HIS COW AT KILLOUP, AND THE OTHER WAS STRUCK DOWN ON HIS OWN HEARTH AT BLACK CLAUCHRIE, BARR AND IS BURIED NEAR THIS SPOT

This memorial within a railed enclosure is dedicated to John Semple and Thomas McClorgan, who died in 1685 for their religious beliefs.

This circular memorial is set into the east gable wall of the old church. The inscription reads:- WILLIAM BELL SCOTT LLD HRSA B 1811 D 1890 POET ARTIST
