Alloway is a small village located in Ayrshire, Scotland. Situated about two miles south of Ayr, Alloway is best known as the birthplace of Scotland's national poet, Robert Burns, and is of great historical and cultural significance.

The village is home to several key attractions associated with Burns, including the famous Burns Cottage, where he was born in 1759. This well-preserved thatched cottage provides visitors with an insight into the humble beginnings of the poet's life. Adjacent to the cottage is the Burns Museum, a comprehensive exhibition that showcases Burns' life, works, and impact on Scottish culture.

One of the village's most iconic landmarks is the Burns Monument and Memorial Gardens. Situated on the banks of the River Doon, this grand structure was built in 1823 and offers stunning views of Alloway and the surrounding countryside. It is a popular spot for tourists and locals alike, particularly during the annual Burns Night celebrations held in January.

Alloway is also known for the atmospheric Auld Kirk, the setting for Burns' famous poem "Tam o' Shanter." The churchyard is the final resting place of many notable figures, adding to the village's historical significance.

In addition to its Burns-related attractions, Alloway boasts a charming village atmosphere with traditional cottages, quaint tea rooms, and local shops. The village is surrounded by picturesque countryside, making it an ideal base for exploring the beauty of Ayrshire.

Overall, Alloway offers a unique blend of history, culture, and natural beauty, making it a must-visit destination for those interested in Scottish literature and heritage.

Duck family on the water near the sands We were on the little stone bridge. There had been quite an escapade with the ducklings having lost their mother - seems she found them OK. The water merges with salt water in about 10 yards.
