St.James' church, Swimbridge, Devon A delightful church with a very famous former rector. The Reverend Jack Russell was rector here from 1833 to 1873 and is buried in the graveyard. Devon&#039;s &quot;hunting parson&quot; founded the breed of terrier by crossing a local terrier with a bitch called Trump he acquired from a milkman whilst an undergraduate at Oxford. The pub across the road is called the &quot;Jack Russell&quot; and has much memorabilia, good beer, food and a Jack Russell dog ! If you have a Jack Russell, this is headquarters and worth a pilgrimage.
