Brinsworth is a small civil parish located in the Metropolitan Borough of Rotherham, South Yorkshire, England. Situated approximately 4 miles northeast of Rotherham town center, Brinsworth covers an area of about 2.5 square miles. The parish is bordered by other localities, including Canklow, Treeton, and Herringthorpe.

Historically, Brinsworth was predominantly an agricultural village, but it experienced significant industrial growth during the 19th and 20th centuries. The area saw the establishment of coal mines, ironworks, and brickworks, which contributed to its economic development. Today, Brinsworth retains some remnants of its industrial past, with a few industrial estates and factories still in operation.

An open stretch of water formed as a result of subsidence and surrounded by a well-developed area of marshland and willow-carr, covering an area of 12ha. Beyond the carr grassland stretches to the river. The LNR is immediately west of Treeton Lane , Catcliffe, which has a layby.

Catcliffe Glass Cone

A well-known landmark at Catcliffe, the Glass Cone, a 70ft brick cone, was built in 1740 by William Fenney. One of the earliest surviving examples of its type and survives partly because it stayed in use until the early 20th century. Link

Blue Man's Bower - Rotherham

Blue Man's Bower is an area of flooded grassland. It includes a moated, raised area which is a scheduled monument, first known record 1668. The "ditch" which the cows are grazing in, is part of the moat. Part of the raised area can be seen to the right of the picture. It is managed to prevent erosion by grazing livestock.

The row of houses have stood in one Mill Lane for the best part of a century. The row of cars had stood at the red traffic light over the narrow railway bridge for half a minute or so hence their close formation. Why do they always slow down when I stand and point my camera towards them?

Tinsley Motive Power Depot, Tinsley

I was fortunate enough to be given permission to photograph inside the depot on several occasions and given free rein to wander about, both in the depot and in the yard. I don't know how the depot compared with others in terms of the number of locomotives allocated, but Tinsley had a good many. I also don't know whether steam locomotives ever got to this depot, other than Open Days, but the depot opened in 1965 and steam locomotives were active until August 1968. I was very sorry to see it closed in 1998. Refuelling nearest the camera is 37198/37059. At the side of the shed, nearest, is 47296 and then 47012. Nearest in the shed is 47123 and at the far side is 47321. If I told you it rained a little 10mins after this shot would you believe me? I went to the depot many times, but never saw rain like I did this day. I almost made it back to the car, with my son in tow, but not quite.
