St. Cuthbert's Church (1), Rectory Road, Donington

The Parish church for the village of Donington. It was founded in 1085 by Roger de Montgomery, at a time when King William I (William the Conqueror) was still on the throne of England. The present structure seems to be rather later than that, with parts from the 14th & possibly 13th centuries, with much later work and heavily restored in 1878/79. In the church grounds are the remains of this late medieval cross, consisting of the square base and the stump of the shaft. Donington Pool, Donington

On some maps it is marked as Albrighton Pool, but it is generally known as Donington Pool, including by Shropshire County Council. It started life as a mill pond back in the 17th century, since when it has shrunk considerably, and now forms part of the Donington and Albrighton Local Nature Reserve. In the distance can be seen the tower of the Church of St. Mary Magdalene, Albrighton. The two villages of Donington and Albrighton adjoin each other, and it is only this pool and a car park that separate the grounds of the two churches.
