Considering how many people have to share their space with this monstrosity, the least the authorities could do is ensure that water still comes from its taps. And considering how many beautiful buildings of the same age (this was 'gifted' to the people in 1887 by a former provost) aren't listed for age-related reasons it is staggering that the fountain is Category C listed. Perhaps it is due to its relative rarity, which is at least something to be thankful for! A short distance downhill through this otherwise very pleasant green space is an equally ugly bandstand, but at least a band could still set up there should they choose to.
