Old Gorhambury House is a historic mansion located in Hertfordshire, England. Dating back to the 16th century, it is a Grade I listed building and a popular heritage site. The house was originally built by Sir Nicholas Bacon, Lord Keeper of the Great Seal and father of famous philosopher and statesman Sir Francis Bacon.

The architecture of Old Gorhambury House is a fine example of Elizabethan style, with its distinctive red brickwork and decorative chimneys. The house features a central courtyard, surrounded by a two-story building with a projecting entrance tower. The interior of the house boasts well-preserved original features, including ornate plasterwork, oak paneling, and a grand oak staircase.

The surrounding gardens and parkland of Old Gorhambury House are equally impressive. The estate covers over 50 acres and includes formal gardens, terraces, and woodland. The gardens feature manicured lawns, flower beds, and a variety of trees and shrubs. The house itself is situated on a hill, offering stunning views of the surrounding countryside.

Old Gorhambury House has a rich history and has been associated with several prominent figures over the centuries. In addition to the Bacon family, it was owned by the Grimston family in the 17th century and later by the Earls of Verulam. Today, the house is owned by English Heritage and is open to the public. Visitors can explore the house and gardens, learn about its history, and admire its architectural beauty.
