These three houses in Gravesend clearly got together to have a show of Christmas lights in their front gardens. People were able to freely walk round and admire the show. They were on the main Rochester Road towards the east of Gravesend and could be seen some way off. See also Link and Link

Gravesend canal basin

Photo taken facing south - Gravesend canal basin still opens into the Thames and was originally at the entrance to the Thames and Medway canal. It is now cut off from the rest of the remains across the marshes to Higham. The railway from Gravesend to Rochester passes through the old canal tunnel near Strood.

New Tavern Fort, Gravesend, Kent

New Tavern Fort was built in 1780 on the opposite bank of the Thames to Tilbury Fort to guard the approach to London. It now contains examples of artillery from different periods of history.

Lighthouse & Jetty

This jetty and lighthouse is near the Ship and Lobster pub to the East of Gravesend Town. The distinctive outline of this jetty shown on the OS map has been changed in recent years. This caused some confusion until I was put right by one of the Dockers.

The Thames & Medway Canal

This is a picture of the remains of the Thames and Medway Canal. The canal was first proposed as a link from Chatham to Woolwich in 1778. It was completed in 1801. The canal tunnel to Rochester was taken over for the railway some time after 1845. The canal remained open to Higham until 1934. The photo was taken from a footbridge.

Riverview Park Library

This is Riverview Park Library in Gravesend. There is a plaque on the wall commemorating Gravesend Airport see TQ6671 : Airport Plaque. There is no trace of the airfield now, even so the topography of the area seems ill suited for an aerodrome.

This is a footpath that crosses Southern Valley Golf Course from Riverview Park to the A226. The gravel path to the right leads to the 8th tee the footpath is to the left of the fence.
