Everybody is entitled to a buttie break Aboard the preserved locomotive Palmerston during the Bygones Weekend Special event.

‘Palmerston’ is named after Viscount Palmerston - a Liberal Prime Minister - and was one of the original four 0-4-0 engines built by George England in 1863/4. She was constructed with a domed boiler, benefiting from the trials of the first batch of these locomotives delivered. In 1880, she was then fitted with a saddle tank to improve adhesion.

Maddock's Memorial Fountain, Grade II Listed * Erected in 1875. It originally stood at the junction of High Street, New Street and Penamser Road, in which position it is shown on the 1888 Ordnance Survey, but was moved to its present location when the junction was made into a roundabout.

Rusty rails at Porthmadog Harbour station The winter interlude has allowed the Ffestiniog Railway to undertake a track-renewal programme between Boston Lodge and Minffordd, so no trains have been running between Porthmadog and Blaenau Ffestiniog. The station building is undergoing a facelift. Moel-y-gest forms the backdrop.

** Built as 2 houses in the mid C19 and shown on the 1871 Tremadog estate plan and 1888 Ordnance Survey. It was later altered by addition of a shop front and amalgamation into a single property.
Listed for its special architectural interest as a C19 town house and shop of definite character, with good surviving later C19 detail, forming a strong visual group with the adjoining No 19.
