Knowe of the Wick is a prominent coastal feature located on the northern coast of the Shetland Islands, Scotland. It is a headland that juts out into the North Sea, forming a distinctive point. The name "Knowe of the Wick" derives from the Old Norse word "vik," meaning a bay or inlet.

Rising approximately 30 meters above sea level, Knowe of the Wick offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding rugged coastline and the vast expanse of the North Sea. Its location on the northernmost part of Shetland makes it an exposed and windswept area, often experiencing strong gusts coming from the Atlantic.

The headland is characterized by steep cliffs, composed of sedimentary rock formations that have been shaped by centuries of erosion. The cliffs are home to an array of seabirds, including guillemots, kittiwakes, and puffins, which nest in the rocky crevices during the breeding season.

Knowe of the Wick is also known for its historical significance. Archaeological excavations have revealed the presence of ancient settlement remains, including structures and artifacts dating back to the Iron Age. These findings suggest that the headland was inhabited by early settlers who took advantage of its strategic position for fishing and trade.

Today, Knowe of the Wick is a popular destination for nature enthusiasts, hikers, and birdwatchers. Its dramatic coastal scenery, rich wildlife, and historical significance make it an iconic landmark of Shetland's natural and cultural heritage.
