This little chapel is reached via a winding road through Cwm Capel (translated as Chapel Valley). It is near to St Illtyd's Walk - I wonder if there's a history of religious buildings at this location?

Level crossing and signal box

A level crossing on the West Wales Line. A signal box for the line is also in the picture. I'm not sure if this box is now in use - levers were clearly visible through the windows.

Old Pembrey Harbour

Now silted over, this was once a thriving little harbour that served to export the coal mined from nearby Pembrey Mountain. A new Pembrey harbour was built but soon renamed Burryport Harbour. It can be seen in the distance in this photo.

Quay at Pembrey Harbour

This former quay, deep inside Pembrey Harbour, has been restored in recent years. At low water, silt and salt marshes cover the former harbour, making it impenetrable for modern-day craft.

Built in 1832, this harbour was called the 'New Pembrey Harbour' at that time. It was subsequently re-named when the former Pembrey Harbour was abandoned in 1878.

Public footpath above Burry Port

The hillside above Burry Port is criss-crossed by a network of trackways. Originally, all would have been of similar status but over the years, some developed into tarmac covered roads, some into farm tracks and others, as can be seen here into footpaths.

At the seeming end of an ancient thoroughfare, this stile leads into a field where the old route can be followed through the field to the coast beyond.
