The Battery, Castletown This is a Victorian battery constructed sometime after 1866 as a training facility for the local artillery volunteers. It is possible that it was armed with the two cannon which now stand at Thurso Castle.

On the Castlehill Flagstone Trail In front are Caithness flags - slabs of local stone used commonly for walling and for paving too. The tower was the base of a windmill. Its drystone walls taper upwards above the pointed doorway. The mill formerly had a wooden blockhouse above the stone base.
