Haunaray is a small island located in the Inverness-shire region of Scotland. Situated in the Inner Hebrides, it is part of the archipelago known as the Small Isles, along with Eigg, Muck, and Rum. With an area of approximately 3 square miles, Haunaray is the smallest of the Small Isles.

The island is characterized by its rugged, mountainous terrain and stunning natural beauty. It is mainly composed of granite and features several peaks, the highest being An Stac, which reaches an elevation of 620 meters (2,034 feet). Haunaray offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding sea and neighboring islands.

Despite its small size, Haunaray has a rich history dating back centuries. It was once inhabited, but the last permanent residents left in the early 20th century. Today, the island is mostly used for grazing sheep and is a popular destination for hikers, nature enthusiasts, and those seeking a peaceful retreat. It is also a haven for birdwatchers, as it is home to various seabirds and rare species.

Access to Haunaray is mainly by boat, with regular ferry services connecting it to nearby ports on the mainland. The island has limited facilities, with no permanent settlements or shops. Visitors are advised to bring their supplies and camping equipment if planning an extended stay.

Haunaray offers a unique and unspoiled experience for those seeking solitude and natural beauty in the Scottish Highlands. Its remote location and untouched landscapes make it a hidden gem for outdoor enthusiasts and lovers of tranquility.

Eilean an Fheidh There are two red deer hinds on the skyline. Given the name of the island, there should really be just one, but I couldn't arrange that!
