Haaf Gruney is a small uninhabited island located in the Shetland archipelago, situated off the northeastern coast of Scotland. The island is part of the larger group of islands known as the Out Skerries, which comprises a total of around 70 islets and skerries. Haaf Gruney is one of the largest islands in this cluster, measuring approximately 29 hectares in size.

The landscape of Haaf Gruney is characterized by rugged cliffs, rocky shores, and rolling grassy slopes. The island is predominantly composed of sandstone and shale, with occasional pebble beaches dotting its coastline. Vegetation on Haaf Gruney is sparse, consisting mainly of low-growing grasses and hardy shrubs.

Due to its remote location and lack of human habitation, Haaf Gruney serves as an important breeding ground for several bird species. The island is home to a diverse range of seabirds, including puffins, guillemots, and razorbills, which nest in the cliffs and rocky crevices. These bird colonies attract ornithologists and nature enthusiasts from around the world, who visit the island to observe and study the avian population.

Access to Haaf Gruney is limited, with no regular ferry or boat services available. However, guided tours and boat trips to the Out Skerries can be arranged from the nearby mainland. These excursions provide visitors with a chance to admire the stunning coastal scenery, spot wildlife, and witness the unique ecosystem of Haaf Gruney in all its natural splendor.
