LMS Stanier Mogul No. 2968 on the Severn Valley Railway Here is LMS No. 2968 hauling a passenger train to Kidderminster, viewed from Bank Farm and taken during the Winter Steam Gala. This locomotive (part of the LMS Stanier Class 5 2-6-0 or Stanier Mogul) was completed at Crewe Works in January 1934, and was originally known as LMS 13268 prior to its renaming as LMS 2968 in 1935, then was known as BR 42968 from 1948-66. There were forty locomotives built for this class from October 1933 to March 1934, and they were withdrawn from November 1963 to February 1967; only 42968 was preserved compared to the others. The Stanier Mogul Fund was established in 1971 to save 42968, which they succeeded with by moving the locomotive to Bridgnorth in 1973. The Stanier Mogul returned to steam in 1990 and began to haul passenger trains a year later, and the engine was in service from 1991-98 and 2002-13 respectively. The locomotive recently returned to service in 2024, after an overhaul that lasted from 2014-23, and will be renumbered to LMS 13268 later this year (the first time since 1935).

GWR No. 7812 'Erlestoke Manor' on the Severn Valley Railway Here is GWR No. 7812 'Erlestoke Manor' hauling a passenger train for Bridgnorth, viewed from Bank Farm and taken during the Winter Steam Gala. Erlestoke Manor was built at Swindon Works in January 1939, and was in mainline service from March 1939 until withdrawal in August 1965. The engine moved to Barry Scrapyard where it remained there until June 1973, when it was purchased by the Erlestoke Manor Fund (they remain the present owners half a century later). The locomotive was planned to be based at the Dean Forest Railway in May 1974, but the Severn Valley Railway won the hearts of the EMF in August 1975 and Erlestoke Manor moved there in April 1976. The locomotive entered service on the SVR from 1979-85, then re-entered service from 2008-17 and from April 2023 onwards.

Flooding at Highley The pub was not flooded but its car park and the access road were. I accessed this location from Highley Station and the only way out was back up the hill to the station.
