Rawden Hill is a prominent geographic feature located in the county of Yorkshire, England. Situated in the northern part of the county, Rawden Hill is part of the Pennines mountain range, which stretches across much of northern England. Rising to an elevation of approximately 1,200 feet (365 meters), it is classified as a hill rather than a mountain due to its relatively modest height.

The hill is characterized by its distinctive shape, with a gently sloping eastern side and a steeper western face. This topography offers panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, including the nearby towns of Rawdon and Horsforth. The hill is covered by a mixture of grassland and shrubs, with occasional patches of woodland interspersed throughout.

Rawden Hill is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts and hikers, who are drawn to its natural beauty and tranquil surroundings. Several footpaths crisscross the hill, providing opportunities for leisurely walks and more challenging hikes. The summit offers a vantage point from which visitors can enjoy breathtaking vistas of the surrounding landscape, which includes rolling hills, farmland, and distant moorlands.

In addition to its recreational appeal, Rawden Hill also holds historical significance. It is believed that the hill was used as a defensive site during the Iron Age, with the remnants of an ancient hillfort still visible today. Archaeological excavations have uncovered artifacts from this period, shedding light on the region's prehistoric past.

Overall, Rawden Hill is a picturesque and historically significant feature of the Yorkshire landscape, offering both natural beauty and cultural heritage to those who visit.

Although the sex of Humboldt Penguins cannot be determined by appearance, this is a male - the sex has been previously determined by staff and indicated with a marker on his left flipper. Alien "UFO" Rods at Harewood House These alien rods (see <span class="nowrap"><a title="http://www.roswellrods.com/" rel="nofollow ugc noopener" href="http://www.roswellrods.com/">Link</a><img style="margin-left:2px;" alt="External link" title="External link - shift click to open in new window" src="https://s1.geograph.org.uk/img/external.png" width="10" height="10"/></span> ) were captured on digital camera at Harewood House on a warm spring afternoon.

They are of course not bizarre alien creatures as some believe, but flies, captured in the relatively fast time exposure of the camera. Amazingly, there are many people who believe that these are alien creatures that can only be seen in video and photographs. The clue's there in the last sentence ladies and gents...

I first heard about these "rods" in a documentary by Fox shown on Sky which was presented as serious scientific research, though their "image expert" sounded pretty clueless to me. Seriously though, I nearly laughed myself off the seat at times, but at other times I was angered by the way the "facts" were being presented. These incidentally are the same people who brought us the documentary proving that man didn't go to the moon.

I guess if there's money to be made selling books...
