Frampton Wood is a picturesque woodland located in Gloucestershire, England. Covering an area of approximately 150 acres, it is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) due to its rich biodiversity and historical significance. The wood sits on the western edge of the village of Frampton on Severn, nestled between the banks of the River Severn and the rolling Cotswold Hills.

The woodland is predominantly made up of broadleaf trees, including oak, ash, and beech, which provide a dense canopy overhead. These ancient trees have been carefully managed over the years, resulting in a diverse understory of flora and fauna. Bluebells, wild garlic, and wood anemones carpet the forest floor during spring, creating a vibrant display of colors.

Frampton Wood is not only renowned for its natural beauty but also for its historical significance. The wood was a pivotal site during the English Civil War in the 17th century, with remnants of earthworks and defensive ditches still visible today. These historical features offer visitors a glimpse into the area's past and attract history enthusiasts from far and wide.

The wood is open to the public and provides a serene setting for leisurely walks, wildlife spotting, and nature photography. Several well-marked trails wind through the woodland, offering different routes and lengths for visitors to explore. Frampton Wood truly offers a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of modern life, allowing visitors to connect with nature and immerse themselves in its beauty.

Bridleway near Sapperton Judging by the height and thickness of the grass, this does not seem to be well used. Perhaps not surprising, as it doesn't lead easily to anywhere in particular. It is on the Bathurst Estate.

The bed of the former Thames and Severn Canal We were walking west on the south bank, and at this point just carried on doing so. Fortunately, within a few yards I realised that we should have crossed to the north bank (and the clear path seen here on the right). Even more fortunately, my shouts to my companions (who were ahead) alerted another couple to the fact that they had made the same error.
When I did the walk (April 2017) there was no waymarking at this spot indicating the need to change banks (though there was for those walking east). I hope that this will have been corrected by the time you arrive.
