The coppice is primarily composed of deciduous trees, including oak, ash, beech, and birch, which create a breathtaking canopy during the spring and summer months. These ancient woodlands have been managed sustainably for centuries, with traditional coppicing techniques employed to maintain the biodiversity and health of the forest.

Walking through Wiltshire Coppice, visitors will encounter a variety of wildlife species. The woodland is home to deer, foxes, badgers, and a wide range of bird species, including woodpeckers, nightingales, and owls. It is not uncommon to spot rare and endangered species such as the red kite or the lesser horseshoe bat.

The forest also boasts several walking trails and footpaths, providing an opportunity for visitors to explore its natural beauty. The paths wind through the woodland, offering stunning views of wildflowers, babbling brooks, and picturesque clearings.

Wiltshire Coppice is not only a haven for wildlife but also a valuable resource for local communities. Dorset path sign After the plain, and often absent Wiltshire signage, the flamboyant Dorset ones were quite a surprise. Dorset suffers less from the horrible ableist English path restrictions than most places and is a great place to visit if you cannot backpack on foot anymore. There is always a feeling of having saved yourself a ferry fare, and the beer's better than further south.
