Charlton Downs This extremely muddy and waterlogged track is a bridle path that runs across the down. In the distance is Little Coll Wood and across the front edge of it runs Combs Ditch. The ditch was probably built by Britons to defend themselves from the expanding kingdom of Wessex to the north. From coins found during excavations there are suggestions it dates to the 4th or 5th centuries.
