Ross on Wye - Gwalia independent store This shop, which is proudly an "independent store", is in the heart of Ross on Wye and was established in 1872. It is festooned with old tin signs on its upper levels - I wonder if these are genuinely ones that it has displayed over the nearly 150 years that it has been in existence. It is called 'Gwalia' which is an archaic Welsh name for Wales derived from the Mediaeval Latin 'Wallia'.
