"During the evening of Sunday 21st March 1943 a de Havilland Mosquito aircraft operated by the Polish 307 squadron crashed within the parish of Farringdon when making its final approach to RAF Exeter.  ... This memorial stands as a tribute to Jan Michalowski and Stanislaw Szkop, two men from another country who died while defending our own"
