Towy Tywi from Brianne - Ystradffin, Carmarthenshire This is the outflow from the Llyn Brianne reservoir, completed in 1973. The aim of this work was to control the flow of the River Towy, Afon Tywi in Welsh, to provide a fresh water supply to South Wales. There were many protests but eventually the work did go ahead, by Wimpey Construction. At the time it was the tallest dam in the UK (United Kingdom) at 300 feet or 91 metres.
