Distington is a civil parish located in the county of Cumberland, in the northwestern part of England. It is situated about three miles southwest of the town of Workington, and covers an area of approximately 7.5 square miles. The parish is predominantly rural, with a population of around 2,500 people.

The landscape of Distington is characterized by rolling hills and fertile farmland, interspersed with small villages and hamlets. The area is known for its picturesque scenery and natural beauty, with many opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling, and fishing.

The main settlement within the parish is the village of Distington, which serves as the administrative center. The village has a range of amenities including a primary school, a church, a community center, and a few local shops and businesses. There are also several traditional pubs in the area, which are popular gathering places for residents and visitors alike.

Historically, Distington was a coal mining area, and evidence of this industry can still be seen in the form of disused mines and mining relics scattered throughout the countryside. Today, the parish is primarily residential, with a mix of old and new housing developments.

Overall, Distington offers a peaceful and idyllic setting for those seeking a rural lifestyle, while still being within easy reach of larger towns and cities for employment and other amenities.
