Chelmsley Wood is a civil parish located in Warwickshire, England. It is situated approximately 7 miles east of Birmingham city center and is part of the Metropolitan Borough of Solihull. The town is bordered by Castle Bromwich to the south, Smith's Wood to the east, and Kingshurst to the north.

Originally developed in the 1960s as an overspill estate for Birmingham, Chelmsley Wood is primarily a residential area. It is characterized by a mix of housing types, including council housing, private estates, and high-rise flats. The town center, known as the "Shopping Centre," is home to a range of shops, supermarkets, and amenities, serving the needs of the local population.

Chelmsley Wood has a strong community spirit and is home to several community centers, youth clubs, and sports facilities. The parish also has a number of green spaces and parks, providing recreational opportunities for residents.

M6 Toll Road, Stonebridge Road Bridge

The M6 Toll Road is a 27-mile private-sector expressway to the north of Birmingham. The M6 is the key artery through the West Midlands, but it suffers from chronic congestion as part of Britain’s longest and most important motorway. The Birmingham Northern Relief Road, as the M6 Toll was originally known, was built to siphon off the through traffic between the South-east and the North-West. Site clearance started in 2000, construction of the road began in 2002 and it opened in December 2003 (Link

M6 Toll History). When planned, it was forecast that 72000 vehicles would use the link, but just half that number of motorists take the route today (2013 - Link

Overpriced and underused – The Independent) whilst in contrast, the M6 itself is still carrying in excess of 125,000 vehicles a day with many claiming that the toll route’s benefits do not warrant the charges (2013 rates: currently £5.50 for private cars and £11 for trucks, with modest discounts for weekend and overnight use - see SP2685 : M6 Toll Tariff, Chapel Green) and that when traffic is flowing reasonably freely on the original M6, there is no incentive to use the toll route which is marginally longer than the free motorway, with time also lost for stopping to pay at the toll booth. The toll motorway is operated by Midland Expressway Ltd, which has the concession until 2054 – when the road is due to be handed back to the government.

Blackfirs Lane, Marston Green

This part of Blackfirs Lane is still open to traffic, mostly as access for the residents of the houses on its south side. It's gated off at the eastern end, pretty much where the converging parallels of the road come together, and beyond that is purely pedestrian access for walkers/cyclists from the industrial parks who often stroll to SP1985 : The Little Owl for lunch.

HS2 works fill the space between the A452 Chester Road (camera) and the M42 motorway as it approaches junction 7. Behind the camera is just one of the many remodelled roads and road junctions in the area. Blackfirs Lane, Bickenhill

Part of this old country lane has been repurposed as a cycle and foot path connecting a business park with Marston Green, a suburb of Solihull. A patch of woodland alongside has survived the transition of this area from rural Arden to urban edgeland adjoining the airport, exhibition centre and other 20th & 21st century developments.

Blackfirs Lane, Bickenhill, with young monkey puzzle tree

Blackfirs Lane has houses down one side and no pavement, but traffic is light as it is a dead end street for motor vehicles. A cycle and foot path connect it to the business park to the east. An Araucaria or monkey puzzle tree has been planted in a raised bed in a driveway and casts its intricate shadow on the tarmac.
