Gazebo in Beckington The guidebook to the Macmillan Way, which takes this footpath, describes this as a "small conical roofed gazebo". But what is it? There's no door or window on this side so it must be accessible from within the property. And what category would you put it in?

2008 : Beckington Castle Has now been painted up gaudy and taken over as business premises.

The following was received from Cheryl Nicol of Melbourne, Australia.

Not much seems to be known about the history of Beckington Castle due to lack of deeds and other documentary evidence. It is thought parts of it date from medieval times and the clothier William Long (c.1498-1558) may have rebuilt it. In 1569 William's son Thomas lived there

It was sold prior to 1616 to the Lord Treasurer Sir James Ley, 1st Earl of Marlborough of Heywood House, Westbury.
