St Milburga's Priory, located in Shropshire, England, is a significant heritage site known for its historical and architectural importance. The priory dates back to the 12th century and was originally founded as a Benedictine nunnery by Roger de Montgomery, the Earl of Shrewsbury.

The priory is dedicated to St Milburga, a notable Anglo-Saxon saint who was the granddaughter of King Penda of Mercia. It is believed that the priory was built on the site where St Milburga's remains were originally interred. Over the centuries, the priory grew in size and importance, becoming a prominent religious and cultural center in the region.

The architecture of St Milburga's Priory is a blend of different styles reflecting its long history. The original Norman church was expanded and modified during the 13th and 14th centuries, incorporating elements of Gothic architecture. The priory's notable features include a beautiful west front adorned with intricate carvings, a vaulted crypt, and a stained glass window depicting scenes from St Milburga's life.

Despite its historical significance, St Milburga's Priory suffered damage during the dissolution of the monasteries in the 16th century. The priory was eventually abandoned and fell into disrepair. However, restoration efforts in the 19th century helped preserve the remaining structure, and it was later designated as a heritage site.

Today, visitors to St Milburga's Priory can explore the ruins and experience the serene and spiritual atmosphere of this ancient religious site. It serves as a reminder of the region's rich history and the enduring legacy of St Milburga.

St Milburga's cottages Tucked down in this little street are the cottages where my Gran and Grandad used to live in the late 1950's. There have been minor changes to layout etc but they are still charming. To the left, just out of picture, are a row of cottages converted into one huge dwelling called The Old Tannery, but to me they have always had the look of weavers cottages. I can remember the days when they were all individual dwellings with children playing on the street and washing hanging everywhere. Times have certainly changed in that respect.
