The Redeswire Fray of 1575 is a significant historical event that took place in Roxburghshire, Scotland. This event is considered one of the last stands of medieval chivalry and is now recognized as a heritage site.

The fray occurred during a time of political and religious tensions between England and Scotland. It was a clash between the English and Scottish border families, known as the Armstrongs and the Kerrs respectively. The incident unfolded when a group of Armstrongs, led by Johnnie Armstrong of Gilnockie, raided the English borderlands. In response, the English warden, Sir John Forster, organized a retaliatory force consisting of English and Scottish borderers.

The conflict reached its climax on the slopes of Redeswire, a strategic location on the border between the two nations. The ensuing battle was fierce and resulted in a significant loss of life on both sides. Ultimately, the Armstrongs were outnumbered and overwhelmed by the combined English and Scottish forces. Johnnie Armstrong and many of his men were captured and subsequently executed.

Today, the Redeswire Fray is commemorated as an important event in Scottish history and is recognized as a heritage site. The site itself offers visitors a chance to explore the battlefield and experience the historical significance of the conflict. Interpretive panels and displays provide detailed information about the events that transpired and the impact they had on the region. The Redeswire Fray serves as a reminder of the tumultuous past of the Scottish-English borderlands and the enduring legacy of medieval chivalry.
