The Auld Brig o' Doon is a historic bridge located in the town of Alloway, Ayrshire, Scotland. Spanning over the River Doon, it is an iconic landmark and a testament to the rich heritage of the area. The bridge holds significant historical and cultural importance as it is featured in the well-known poem "Tam o' Shanter" by Robert Burns, one of Scotland's most celebrated poets.

Built in the late 15th century, the Auld Brig o' Doon is a stone arch bridge that has stood the test of time. Its construction is attributed to Sir William Wallace, a Scottish knight who played a crucial role in the country's fight for independence. The bridge was originally used as a crossing point for travelers and livestock, linking the towns of Ayr and Maybole.

The bridge's picturesque setting amidst the rolling hills and lush greenery of the Ayrshire countryside adds to its charm. It has become a popular tourist destination, attracting visitors from around the world who come to admire its architectural beauty and explore the surrounding area.

Today, the Auld Brig o' Doon is a protected heritage site, managed by the local authorities. The bridge has undergone several restoration projects over the years to preserve its historical integrity. Visitors can walk across the bridge and enjoy panoramic views of the river and the surrounding countryside. The nearby Burns Monument and the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum provide further insight into the life and works of Robert Burns, making the Auld Brig o' Doon an essential stop for literature and history enthusiasts alike.

Duck family on the water near the sands We were on the little stone bridge. There had been quite an escapade with the ducklings having lost their mother - seems she found them OK. The water merges with salt water in about 10 yards.
