Sgeir Mhòr is a small uninhabited island located off the west coast of Scotland, specifically in Argyllshire. Situated in the Sound of Jura, it lies approximately 5 miles southwest of Craighouse on the Isle of Jura. The island measures around 1.5 miles in length and is predominantly rocky with a few small grassy areas.

The name "Sgeir Mhòr" translates to "big skerry" in Scottish Gaelic, which accurately describes the island's rugged and rocky terrain. It is popular among birdwatchers and wildlife enthusiasts due to its abundant birdlife and seals that can often be spotted in the surrounding waters.

The island is known for its picturesque views, with steep cliffs rising from the sea and offering panoramic vistas of the surrounding area. Sgeir Mhòr is also home to a lighthouse, constructed in 1835, which played a vital role in guiding ships through the treacherous waters of the Sound of Jura.

Due to its remote location and lack of facilities, Sgeir Mhòr is not accessible to tourists for overnight stays, but it can be visited by boat or kayak during the day. The island's rocky shores make landing difficult, so caution is advised when approaching. Visitors are encouraged to respect the island's fragile ecosystem and wildlife, ensuring no disturbance or damage occurs.

Overall, Sgeir Mhòr offers a secluded and scenic experience for nature lovers, with its rugged landscape and abundant wildlife making it a hidden gem in Argyllshire's coastal beauty.
