Carse Sands is a coastal marsh and salt marsh located in Kirkcudbrightshire, a historical county in southwest Scotland. It is situated near the Solway Firth, a large estuary that separates Scotland from England. The area is characterized by its vast expanse of sandy and muddy flats, which are exposed during low tide and flooded during high tide.

The marshland is an important habitat for various species of plants and animals. It provides a feeding and nesting ground for numerous bird species, including waders such as curlews, oystercatchers, and redshanks. These birds are attracted to the rich diversity of invertebrates and small fish that thrive in the marsh's brackish waters. The area also supports a variety of plant life, including saltmarsh grasses and samphire.

Carse Sands is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), recognizing its ecological importance. The salt marsh acts as a natural buffer, protecting the coastline from erosion and providing a valuable barrier against storm surges and flooding. The area is also of geological interest, with the sands containing deposits of glacial till and shell fragments.

The marshland is popular among nature enthusiasts, birdwatchers, and photographers who visit to observe the diverse wildlife and capture the stunning coastal landscapes. Access to the area is available through designated footpaths and observation points, ensuring the protection of the delicate ecosystem.
