Samphire bed at Somercotes Haven Army of little green men. It's other name is glaswort. Very young samphire, not yet ready for picking. It eventually becomes multi-branched. Always cut it, don't pull out the roots. Boil in water for a couple of minutes only, if it needs longer than that it is past its best. Eat hot with butter, or cold with vinaigrette. Traditionally it is also conserved in vinegar.

Sea lavender on the salt marsh at Somercotes Haven Through a rainy lens on a very wet day, with the air-to ground range markers in the distance. It makes a good "everlasting flower" (it dries out well) but has no scent - it is not related to garden lavender.
