Oliver's Island, located in the River Thames in Middlesex, is a small and picturesque island with a rich history. Named after Oliver Cromwell, the island is situated near the village of Kew, in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames.

Measuring approximately 200 meters long and 50 meters wide, Oliver's Island is covered with lush vegetation, including trees and shrubs. It is best known for its unique shape, which resembles a footprint when viewed from above. The island's distinctive form is the result of it being formed by natural sedimentation, causing the river to flow around it.

The island has played a significant role in the history of the area. During the 18th century, it served as a popular picnic spot for wealthy Londoners, who would arrive by boat to enjoy the tranquility and natural beauty of the island. In the 19th century, Oliver's Island became a popular spot for anglers, thanks to its abundance of fish in the surrounding waters.

Today, Oliver's Island remains a peaceful oasis amidst the bustling city. It is a designated nature reserve, providing a habitat for various bird species, including herons, kingfishers, and swans. Access to the island is limited, with no public facilities or infrastructure. However, it can be admired from the riverside paths or enjoyed from the water on a boat trip.

Oliver's Island is not only a hidden gem for nature lovers and history enthusiasts, but also a reminder of the natural beauty that can be found within an urban environment.
