High Ford at Neasham

This is the second of the two Neasham fords on the Tees. When the monks of Lindisfarne carried the remains of the Northumbrian Saint Cuthbert away from the danger of the Viking raids their procession crossed the Tees over the ford at Neasham on their way to Ripon. He would finally be interred in Durham Cathedral.

Looking east from Low Hail Bridge, where, unlike other contributors to Geograph, I was disappointed to find the high gate on its northern side to be padlocked. Having approached from the south a lengthy detour was necessitated.
