The hill is predominantly composed of sedimentary rocks, mainly sandstone, which date back to the Carboniferous period. These rocks have been shaped and eroded over millions of years, resulting in the formation of the hill we see today.

In addition to its natural beauty, the hill has historical significance. It is believed to have been the site of an Iron Age hillfort, although little evidence remains today. The hill also played a role in the medieval period, serving as a lookout point and defensive position.

Overall, Cefn-y-Ffynnon is a captivating hill in Denbighshire that offers stunning views, rich biodiversity, and a glimpse into the region's past.
